Leaving Portland

Leaving the west coast was hard because there is soooo much more to do there and just not enough time.  But we have to be home to prepare for our trip to Nepal, India and maybe Thailand starting in September through December.  Maybe longer.

Before leaving town everyone selected the Saturday Farmer's Market at Portland State in downtown Portland as a last meeting place.  It was perfect and the kids had a great time eating all the good fresh berries - raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries.

On the way back we briefly stopped along the Snake River and took some photos of the White Pelicans along the river.  We didn't get into Hells Canyon or into the Wawolla Mountains and Eagle Cap Wilderness in Eastern Oregon, but we have maps and scouted out trails for the next couple of years.  We drove through the Flaming George of the Green River and Rocky Mountain National Park and then through Council Grove KS.

Below are photos from the Portland Farmer's Market -- yes we ate well in Portland.  So much fresh, delicious, organic produce!

Caught with a hand in the Berry Basket!  The little hands really never left the basket.

The fresh Salmon for sale by the Columbia River area Indians.

After a really good brunch at Gravy on Mississippi we headed east.

Two egg scrambles with veges and hash browns and an order of great french toast in the center.  Yummm.

Photos from the drive East:

The next stop in Oregon was a section of the oregon trail that was preserved with the wagon ruts still in it.  As much as that would have been possible but it was there and interesting.

Then on to Malad George on the snake River near Green River.

Just south of Green River Wyoming is the Flaming George running down into Utah:

Two power boats on the lake on the green river in the canyon.

Falls at Twin Falls Idaho.  The falls have a power plant built in it on the far right.

A brief drive through a smoky Rocky Mountain National park.  Smoke from forest fires in Idaho and Montana was moving south into the Rockies in Colorado.
