Churches in Santa Fe area and views at the house

We did a short tour of some of the old mission churches in the area.  Also, some photos from where we have been staying.  Just a beautiful area.

Decorated Cemeteries

Sangre de Christo mountains turning red at sunset.  Means blood of Christ.

Chaco Canyon

We took a trip over to see Chaco Canyon which was a long drive with miles of gravel road, but was worth it to us.  A beautiful place.  Beautiful rock work and a great climb up a crack in the canyon wall to the top.

Beautiful rock work on the walls in Chaco Canyon.  But the later ruins work is not as fine as the earlier work.

They were building three story buildings with balconies.

Ceremonial Kivas in the court yards.

Large Kiva

Windows and upper story doorways  in the walls and some were angled through a corner as below.

More ruins along the cliffs

Getting steep and coming out from behind the crack thru the cliff.

Some exposure down here.  See huge vertical rock below us on the canyon floor in the photo below.

The path down

The crack that the trail went up with someone in the crack coming down.

An indian family working their way down the cliff -- the trail went up behind the pointed slab of rock behind them.
